Archives For high kirk community playgroup

As a community playgroup we want our children to be involved in and with their local community. Over the last few months we have organised various visits for them. These have included a visit from the farming community and we also went on visits to local primary schools and a nursing home. As you can see from the photos, a good time was had by all!

Sitting in the cab of a tractor was very exciting!

We had a visit from local farming contractor, Brian Dickey & Co, who brought his tractor and baler to the playgroup grounds. The children loved getting to sit in the tractor cab and seeing the huge machines.

The children had an exciting day out as they visited Prospect Nursing Home. As it was coming close to Christmas, they sang Nativity songs for the residents and were well rewarded afterwards with lots of buns! Also in the run-up to Christmas the group visited Ballymena Primary School to see Mr Hullabaloo and also went to hear some storytelling and a Nativity Play at Dunclug Primary.

Our post box for letters to Santa

Coming up to Christmas we had our own special post box for posting letters to Santa. As you can see it looks like Santa has been here to collect some letters and left a bit of a mess behind him! So as you can tell we’ve had a busy few months and the children have had lots of opportunities to connect with the local community.

High Kirk Community Playgroup is based in Ballymena. It provides a quality learning environment for the pre-school child. The sessions starts at 9:10am and end at 12:10pm from Monday to Friday. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

In February the Ballymena Fire Brigade came to meet the children at High Kirk Community Playgroup. Everyone was very excited to see the red Fire Engine arrive and we all had to get in and pretend that we were Firemen!

We also got to try on the uniform which the Firemen wear – we think that it was a bit big but we will grow into it eventually!!

We had to include this snap which features a big creepy crawly which was brought along by the World of Owls. We think that everyone was really brave to meet this big coachroach. In fact, we think that some of the kids were even braver than the staff!!

We want to say a big thank you to the Fire Brigade and the World of Owls for coming to see us at High Kirk Community Playgroup.

At High Kirk Community Playgroup this month we have lots planned for the children to enjoy!

Autumn and Harvest is our theme this month with a focus on the colour brown and the square is the shape we are learning about this month.

We look forward to learning about vegetables and healthy eating. We are planning to read “Olivers Vegetables” by Vivian French which is a great story for fussy eaters, with lots of different vegetables to recognise and count, and the book also introduces children to the days of the week!

During October and November High Kirk Community Playgroup will also be taking part in the Bookstart Rhyme Challenge.

We love the Rhyme challenge as it;

  • Helps children develop early language skills.
  • Supports children and families to enjoy learning together.
  • Contribute towards all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage which the children will eventually move on to.
  • Encourages children to become confident with words and to become good listeners.

With lots more planned for this month we are sure that October at High Kirk Community Playgroup is going to be absolutely packed with fun, learning and the children growing together.
